There are really no rules of who can be on your team in the open division, so I have done it with different types of teams. Friends from High School, random people I know and this year with an all-family team. The cool thing about the race is it really has something for everybody for the more experienced runners there are double digit legs and for more novice runners single digits (I know, not quite novice but better than double digits.)
The River to Sea is also includes the non-runners, because we still need water people. Each team is allowed to have two cars. For my team we put all the runners in one car and have the water support vehicle as the car. The other car can stop too, to cheer or give out water but generally the water car has got the refreshments covered for our team.
Another interesting thing about this race is that the goal is to have the teams finish at around the same time. So, the race directors start people based on their 5k-team average. The earliest a team
