My running hat. This is important because it keeps the rain from landing in my eyes. Why is this important?..... So I can see, it’s tough when you are trying to run and rain keeps landing in your eyes. So, a running hat is a quick fix for this.
A shell. What I mean by a shell is a waterproof or water-resistant light running jacket. This just helps repel some of the rain. I use a light one because I can use it year round. Whether it’s summer and I only have shirt underneath or its winter and I layer up under. It’s a good piece of gear to have.
A running tech shirt always goes underneath the shell for me. It just helps to create a buffer between my skin and shell and it wicks away seat too.
My running shorts, having proper running shorts on a rainy run is a big help. One reason is because they are light and when they get wet they do not retain too much water. Also, Usually they are cut for running so there is not too much extra wet fabric to be carrying around.
Running Socks, again the fact that they are made for running helps. A good pair will stay put on your foot and won’t move around when you are running which will helps to avoid blisters and hot spots while running.
My running shoes. I run in shoes, yes they will get wet but using an old pair of shoes and giving them a few days to dry after the run is the way I do it for me. They make waterproof shoes if you prefer going in that direction.
The one last thing I generally take with me on my run is my GPS watch. I put it on the outside of the shell so it doesn’t get blocked. Mine is water resistant so I do not get concerned about it getting wet.
These were the pieces of gear I used on my last rainy run. It’s nice feeling a little better about the run ahead knowing you are prepared for it.
